Columbus Blooms A dazzling celebration of spring! More than 140,000 tulips, daffodils, and pansies throughout the gardens and container displays combine with stars of the botanical garden. Magnolias, lilacs, cherries, viburnum, and thousands of perennials bring an exciting burst of scents and colors after a long winter slumber.

Plants bloom throughout the season starting in March and continuing through the following months.

Step into the enchanting world of Blooms & Bubbly—a Cocktails at the Conservatory event, a springtime celebration set against the backdrop of the Conservatory’s popular Columbus Blooms exhibition. Enjoy beautiful melodies by local duo Honey & Blue, a whimsical bubble dancer performance, and sip on bubbly drinks while enjoying the gardens. Elevate your experience at the flower bar, courtesy of Wild Prairie Flower Farm, where you can purchase the opportunity to create your own bouquet to take home!

Cocktails at the Conservatory events are 5:30-9:30pm and strictly 21+. IDs will be checked at the door. Reservations are required for all guests, including all member levels and Monarchs, and close at midnight before the event. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Blooms & Butterflies Opening Day

A sure sign that spring is on the way is when the butterflies arrive at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens!  Join us for opening day and make a special Sand Art butterfly or flower to commemorate the day—a $ 4 fee per sand art craft.

Visitors should also view the Metamorphosis Lab in the Grand Atrium to learn about the butterfly lifecycle.

The event is included in admission on February 22.  No registration is required; available while supplies last.

Holiday Blooms We’ve decked the Conservatory’s halls, and they’re blooming with holiday spirit! Featuring hundreds of unique poinsettias, the poinsettia trees and more, visitors can spend the season amidst themed photo-ready holiday vignettes inspired by classic scenes and storybook moments of the iconic holiday ballet, The Nutcracker.

Outdoors in the Grand Mallway and Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Children’s Garden, container gardens are creatively styled for the winter.

Please note: The Conservatory will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to artfully arrange an array of fresh, vibrant greenery and blooms into a stunning, low-profile display perfect for adorning your dining table, coffee table, or mantle.

On top of that we will discuss the proper way to set a table and share some creative tablescape ideas for spring that will wow your guests. By the end of the class, you’ll have crafted a one-of-a-kind centerpiece that will instantly refresh and brighten any space, filling it with the cheerful, rejuvenating spirit of the spring season.

Painting Butterflies From Life

Draw butterflies from life inside our exhibit, Blooms & Butterflies! Join Fine Artist Miriam Baranov as you create a vibrant butterfly watercolor, inspired by life. This all-levels workshop which takes place in our biome and the classroom will teach you essential techniques while inspiring creativity.

All supplies for this class are included, just bring your creativity!

Class Highlights:
-Spend some time in the Pacific Island biome, sketching your drawings. After sketching butterflies from life, we will continue working on your art piece in the classroom and finish a painting with watercolor
-Master watercolor basics: brushstrokes, layering, and color theory
-Miriam will demo various techniques and students will have the opportunity to follow along, before applying these concepts to complete a final painting
-Receive personalized feedback to enhance your skills

2025 Cocktails at the Conservatory – Escape to the Islands

Celebrate love this Valentine’s Day at Franklin Park Conservatory! The vibrant blooms of the Conservatory’s Orchids exhibition set the backdrop for a tropical getaway. Sip on refreshing cocktails and tropical local beers as you sway to the rhythm of a steel drums duo, ride the waves on a mechanical surf ride, and learn the enchanting hula from Hawaiian dancers.

  • Cocktails at the Conservatory events are 5:30-9:30pm and strictly 21+. Infants and toddlers are not permitted. IDs will be checked at the door. All guests are required to show valid, physical ID – regardless of age. Photos of ID are not permitted.
  • All guests, including all member levels and Monarchs, must reserve tickets in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door and may sell out leading up to the event. FAQs are available below.

This is a community gardening class taught by the Conservatory’s Community Education Manager, Cindy Maravich. Classes in The Communal Garden series teach gardeners skills that can be used in community gardens or to support their community through gardening. They are low-cost in an effort to advance gardening skills in our communities. The series is a part of the Conservatory’s Growing to Green program, which supports and develops community gardens across Central Ohio.

Learn to grow a cut flower garden to brighten your home and yard. Discover how to cultivate long-lasting flowers, discuss plant conditioning methods, and how to create durable arrangements for yourself and friends. Join us for a guided walk in the second half of the class to explore current blooms on the Community Garden Campus.

Through The Vines: A Seasonal Journey A site-specific installation created by the artists at Applied Imagination will invite guests to explore the lights, sights, and sounds of the four seasons with a series of vine arches made of natural plant materials. Pass through the lively bright blooms of spring, transition to the warmth and vitality of summer, wander through the rich hues and crisp air of fall and then finally experience the tranquility and serene beauty of winter.

Cheery Cherry Blossoms in Watercolor (Daytime)

This is a painting class led by fine artist, Miriam Baranov.

Spring brings to mind visions of blooms all around, and what tree is more iconic for its spring blooms than the Japanese Cherry Tree? Join fine artist Miriam Baranov as she guides you through the basic techniques of watercolor, and you will create a vibrant watercolor painting of fluffy pink cherry blossoms blooming against the backdrop of a bright blue spring sky. The class kicks off with an hour dedicated to hands-on learning watercolor fundamentals, covering tips, setup techniques, and viewing demonstrations on painting the subject matter, color matching, and creating color studies. Students can follow along, receiving critiques and having their questions answered.

In the second hour, students have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned by completing their own painting. Choose from a selection of photo references, combining the class concepts to craft a final study.

Flower Arranging: Hand Tied Valentines Bouquet

This is a hands-on floral design class led by Alexis Lorentzen.

Join Alexis Lorentzen of Botanical Blooms for a hands-on workshop and master course in flower arranging! In this class, participants will create a Valentine’s Day Bouquet from a unique and seasonal mix of flowers. Learn about the basics of prepping your flowers for the most longevity of your bouquet, color selection, the types of flowers available during this winter season, and how to achieve a balanced design.

Participants will end the class by wrapping their bouquet in festive paper and hand tying with ribbon to take home.

Wedding Showcase

Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is thrilled to announce the return of our Wedding Showcase on January 24 from 6-9pm. The Wedding Showcase is a unique opportunity for couples to meet select vendors while enjoying gourmet hors d’oeuvres, bubbly samples, cakes and cocktails.

The Wedding Showcase is also a special chance to experience the Conservatory’s distinctive spaces at night. From the rustic-meets-refined Wells Barn to the tropical and historic John F. Wolfe Palm House, guests will take in each venue’s unique aesthetic.

From photographers to event planners, the Conservatory has experience with hundreds of vendors and has curated a selection of top professionals for the Wedding Showcase. These vendors include caterers, florists, photographers, DJs, wedding planners, cake designers, event rental companies, tuxedo rental professionals, and photo booths.
