Nuno Felted Scarf Workshop

This is a hands-on class led by Gail Maraman of Windy Crest Farms.

The Nuno felt scarf is a featherweight creation, but it is strong and has a totally unique surface design. Using the wet felting technique, wool fibers are fused with a silk gauze fabric to create a beautifully textured scarf. You will make this scarf in a half day workshop, but you will learn a technique that can be used for making fabric that can be sewn into other wearables.

This workshop is designed for beginners and requires gentle, repetitive, upper arm movement. All supplies are provided. Students are requested to bring a small towel for drying their finished scarf.

Instructor: Gail Maraman Felt is a creative and versatile medium made from the natural resource, wool. I care for a small flock of sheep in Granville, Ohio. The sheep grow a variety of colored, as well as white wool, all of which I use to make felt. While tending the sheep, I observe nature’s many colors, textures, and dimensions. I am inspired to transform these observations into works of art, via felt. Whether whimsical or practical in design, the felt that I create is derived from nature. I employ a simple, hands-on approach to every step of the process for making felt: The creative opportunities that felt has to offer are infinite in number. I am constantly challenged to explore the world of felt.
