Internationally renowned light artist James Turrell’s architectural light installation illuminates Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens’ John F. Wolfe Palm House in an inspiring display of light. This permanent installation of approximately 7,000 small, computer-controlled LED light sources, most of which are obscured from direct view inside, performs each evening beginning at dusk. Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens received special funding from the Limited Brands Foundation for Light Raiment II.
It is best viewed from the Conservatory’s Grand Mallway, just west of the Palm House. This spot in the garden offers the best vantage point to take in the entire installation. Light Raiment II can also be experienced while inside the Palm House. The lights flood the towering palms, spiral staircases, iron gazebos and Venetian fountain with vibrant hues.
Upcoming opportunities to view Light Raiment II include Chihuly Nights and Cocktails at the Conservatory events, as well as other evening events.
