Drawing and Painting Orchids

In February, orchids are in full bloom! Join Fine Artist Miriam Baranov as you create vibrant paintings of orchids, inspired by our seasonal orchid display. This all-levels workshop which takes place in our displays and the classroom will teach you essential techniques while inspiring creativity. All supplies for this class are included, just bring your creativity!

Class Highlights:
-Spend some time in the showhouse, sketching your drawings of our orchid collection. After sketching orchids from life, we will continue working on your art piece in the classroom and finish an orchid painting with watercolor
-Master watercolor basics: brushstrokes, layering, and color theory
-Miriam will demo various techniques and students will have the opportunity to follow along, before applying these concepts to complete a final painting
-Receive personalized feedback to enhance your skills

Instructor: Miriam Baranov Miriam Baranov is an internationally recognized, published artist specializing in classical realism. She trained extensively in Old Master techniques through renowned apprenticeships in the U.S. and Florence, Italy.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, she balances teaching and creating, with a focus on portraiture and nature—landscapes, trees, and botanicals. A dedicated educator, she shares her expertise in traditional techniques, helping students master realism with depth and precision.

At Franklin Park Conservatory, Miriam leads an immersive study of botanical art, exploring the beauty of nature through a classical approach.
