On View through November 14
Feed your senses with the captivating, the bizarre, the larger-than-life, real and imaginary world of carnivorous plants. Savage Gardens offers visitors of all ages a close encounter with a vibrant, diverse, and deadly species:
Gain an up-close appreciation for the beauty and diversity of both exotic and temperate species of carnivorous plants in indoor and outdoor bog gardens.
Go behind the scenes and see how the four carnivorous plant sculptures featured in Savage Gardens were created by Tork Studios. Then, step inside the larger-than-life Nepenthes sculpture to imagine yourself an unlucky insect or operate the giant mechanical Venus Flytrap.
Witness a daily feeding of a real Venus fly trap and learn more about meat-eating plants during an interactive 20-minute demonstration. Each day at 1 p.m. Free with admission.
Learn and play at six interactive stations that demonstrate how plants lure, catch, kill and digest insects.
View the artistic abstraction of carnivorous plant life through a juried multi-media art exhibit in the Atrium Gallery and two commissioned sculptures in the Himalayan and Desert biomes.
Catch a glimpse of the humorous side of meat-eating plants with 40 comics on digital display.
Meet the most famous Flytrap of all…Audrey (and other costumes) from the Columbus Children’s Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors, on display in the Grand Atrium.
Participate in Savage Garden related activities: Savage Fashions (ages 10+) or make carnivorous plant puppets with the staff from Phoenix Theatre for Children.
Take the exhibit home! Carnivorous plants of various sizes and species, t-shirts, and carnivorous plant-inspired glass vessels created in the Conservatory’s glass blowing Hot Shop are available in Botanica.
